In memory of
Gerard Oliver Carlton Price
Loving; adventurously spirited; full of laughter; inspiring; generous; dedicated; great cook; historian; cultural enthusiast; educator; and loveable are some of the many traits to personally describe Gerard Oliver Carlton Price lovingly known to many by his African name Kwame. Gerard (Kwame) was born to Carlton and Yvonne Price on March 26, 1953, the 2 nd of 10 siblings from their union.  Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, West Indies, Gerard enjoyed a very robust upbringing and great childhood friendships in the beautiful tropical environment of Wood-Brook, Port-of-Spain and Diego Martin, Trinidad. At the carefree, rebellious, yet soul seeking young age of 20, Gerard arrived into the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn, New York City, with his father and several of his sisters activating the cultural, academic, and adventurously expansive spirit within him! A strong and passionate advocate for social justice; Pan Africanism; and higher learning, Gerard was off to the races making his mark….fully and passionately engaging on every front! Gerard graduated from the College of Staten Island, Major:  Electrical Technology / Associate of Applied Science Degree.   Also attended Pratt Institute – Brooklyn, NY.  Major:  Electrical Engineering, and came six (6) credits shy of obtaining a B.S.E.E. Degree! After a 21 year career with the U.S. Navy retiring as a Petty Officer 1 st class Electrician Mate, Gerard transferred his passion for expansion and growth to his employment at Newport News Ship Building for 7 years until his illness and transition January 17, 2021 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital/Virginia. Of his immediate family, Gerard is proceeded in death by both his father and mother.  He is missed and loved by his wife of 33 years, Velma Gause-Price, his daughter Akilah Price Rodriguez and their daughter Nzingha Jamila Price, grandson Akilah Rodriguez;  his three (3) brothers: Richard, Collin & Brian and six(6) sisters: Jacqueline, Wendy, Judith, Linda, Pamela and Vanessa, a tremendous host of in-laws; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers. Gerard would be heartbreakingly missed and continually loved by his international conglomeration of family and friends. In respect to the season of COVID19 Pandemic, and to accommodate his many international relations – Gerard’s Virtual “Celebration of Life” will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 6pm – 8pm(EST) via Zoom, link provided below.  An actual “Celebration of Life” gathering will be scheduled in the appropriate near future as the current pandemic events subside. Why Plant Trees?

This memorial tree planting will assist in reforestation, improve forest health and area watersheds, and provide a critical habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife.
